Ecole Communautaire La Fontaine is a not-for-profit private school located in Kirundo which is in the northern foothills of the country, by the border with Rwanda. Founded in 2000, the school was established in response to local civil servants and traders seeking quality education for their children, without having to send them to Bujumbura for schooling.
La Fontaine caters for students from elementary through to upper high school and upon graduating receive an A2 Diploma. The upper high school (post-fundamental) program comprises a comprehensive science stream covering Biology, Chemistry, and Earth Sciences. In the future, La Fontaine is looking to establish a technology-IT stream to its upper high-school offering, pending its ability to fund the procurement of the required equipment (for example, laptops, internet etc.) and suitable teachers.
