The ABSF currently supports three schools across Burundi spanning from the south of the country by Lake Tanganyika up to the north by the border with Rwanda.
High school in Burundi lasts between 3-4 years, depending on the school and the student's educational stream.
Irrespective of length, the ABSF will support each ABSF Scholar through their high-school journey, including their costs for tuition, school supplies, and school uniforms.
The ABSF works with the Principal at each school to find eligible students for an ABSF scholarship.
In selecting a student, the Principal must first ask themselves the following quesiton:
if not for the ABSF scholarship, would that child have gone to high-school?
Each September (when the school year commences), a new cohort of students is selected at each school (up to a maximum of 20 students). This means a school will have a maximum of 60-80 ABSF Scholars at any given time.
